Clearly it is obvious that SonSian is under construction and has been for some time, and I can comment that I do not intend this site to be fully operational until late 2010. However I do take on various work requests “time permitting of course”, whilst I maintain this site, or the lack of maintenance, I also study for a Bsc (Hons) Internet Technologies degree at a leading University, furthermore for my sins I work as an IT developer for one of Europe’s leading e-commerce companies. Socially i run a few online gaming servers for PC games and that integrates within an online gaming community which is around 10 years old now, all be via different identity’s. Of course i can’t forget to comment that i have to juggle all that around the family also.
The idea for SonSian was originally thought out around late 2007 and this was due to various people asking me for help with getting an online presence. Naturally, there tends to be people who specifically have an eye for design, and others are orientated towards all things server side. Some people comment that you cannot have both skill sets, but I strongly disagree and today’s software offers varying functionality for those who might lack either skill. The site currently consists of a CMS design using Joomla, which is a combination of HTML and JavaScript using object orientated programming, and some people as a critique may suggest that such a site should be purely wrote in HTML, but again I disagree and there are a number of reasons for that.
The days of laborious HTML design are yesterday’s news, all though, everybody should at least build one website using HTML and notepad, to gain a great understanding of layout and CSS etc, there is little need for consistent development due to today’s content rich solutions, which enables users to create sites with ease as long as they have attention to detail and a basic grasp of HTML coding. Joomla is interesting as it is open source and has a very large programming community, also some people seem to suggest that a site such as SonSian should not use a template, but they clearly lack an understanding of a content management system. You can spend many weeks building a template, but the fact remains it is still "a template" and a CMS requires a front end visual style.
CMS is the flavour of the year for me at the moment and I am already preparing for the move into ASP.Net for 2010 which will incorporate Silverlight and MS expression providing more options for handheld device users, but that is still in development stage and not a priority as my final project year for university starts in September. CMS also allows me to allow my clients to update their content themselves, instead of the client having to go back to their design company for them to get charged extortionate rates to have a few simple updates made to their sites which they have already paid a small ransom for. There are also design sites out there which will build your site for you for a very small fee but will charge your a monthly fee for the entire time that you site is live, which could be useful for some, but a bit of a burden for others i guess.
SonSian is not financially motivated, and that is pretty clear to see as the site not finished, the pure purpose of the site is to get listed and get a presence online for when I intend to do something serious with the site in a few years. But it gives me the opportunity to point my friends etc to a site that they can look at, to get an understanding of what they may want for their business’s etc. I will happily create sites using any required format, whether it be pure HTML, PHP etc, but i don’t not offer any services for full flash site design.
With that said and done thanks for taking the time to look over the site.
